When our team at Karakana Initiative was contacted by Wildlife Direct to curate an exhibition on the sidelines of the Wildscreen Festival Nairobi, we were certain that we will get leopards, lions, lots of elephants and those kinds of images. It just goes without saying. Until we met Muffadal Ali and the script took a different turn.

When we got to see his fish images, they stopped us in our tracks. Not much has been said about aquatic wildlife conservation, especially for the common mwananchi in the streets, unless behind closed doors with scientists and marine life experts.
Muffadal Ali is an intrepid explorer and devoted advocate for aquatic conservation. His expeditions have, for many years, taken him on captivating journeys across Kenya, from meandering rivers to the vast depths of the ocean, all in pursuit of the enthralling task of cataloging diverse fish species.

It is these stories that got him four unique powerful images that highlight key issues of endangered aquatic life especially along Kenyan rivers.
His passion is not without the pain of witnessing first-hand, how our rivers are turning dark and our fish species vanishing due to pollution. Everything he grew up seeing is disappearing, and now he clicks at the beautiful life under the waves to tell the tales of our endangered Aquatic Wildlife.
